BayBears Shut out Jackson in Game One, Game Two Rained Out

MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, shut out the Jackson Generals 2-0 in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader at Hank Aaron Stadium. The second game was halted in the top of the second inning and canceled due to heavy rain. It will not be resumed at a later date, since the teams do not play again in the first half of the season.

Griffin Canning pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings and only allowed a pair of singles. He retired 13 straight Jackson (35-29) batters from the first inning until the fifth. He issued one walk, hit a batter, and recorded six strikeouts.

Matt Custred (2-3) earned the win with 1 1/3 of scoreless relief to complete the shutout.

Luis Rengifo provided the only offense with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ryan Atkinson (2-6) held the BayBears (35-28) to just two hits in the game.

The BayBears begin a five-game road series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jason Alexander (0-0, -.- ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Seth Varner (3-0, 2.78 ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
