Mobile BayBears News Release
The Mobile BayBears squandered an early 2-0 lead, falling 8-2 to the Montgomery Biscuits Wednesday night at River Walk Stadium. Mobile scored first in the fourth inning, but the Biscuits responded in the bottom half of the frame with a solo home run from Kyeong Kang and Montgomery tied the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly from Hak-Ju Lee. With the score still tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Biscuits plated four runs on five hits off of BayBears RHP Bryan Woodall as Montgomery went on to win their fourth straight game.
RHP Derek Eitel worked six innings, allowing two runs on five hits before leaving after the bottom half of the sixth with the score tied at 2-2. Woodall was credited with his first loss of the season after allowing Montgomery to take the lead in the bottom half of the seventh. The inning began with three straight singles from the bottom three hitters in the Biscuits lineup and Brett Nommensen put Montgomery out in front with a RBI single for his second of three hits in the game. Nommensen added two more runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning when he hit a two-run home off of BayBears RHP Eric Smith.
The BayBears scored their only two runs of the game in the fourth inning when Evan Frey led off the frame with a double and then scored after tagging up from second base on a sacrifice fly from Marc Krauss. Matt Davidson (pictured right) gave Mobile a 2-0 lead in the next at-bat, hitting his 18th home run of the season. The BayBears would be held scoreless over the final five innings as RHP Matt Buschmann earned the win for the Biscuits, pitching seven innings, giving up just the two runs on seven hits. Montgomery RHP Kirby Yates recorded the final six outs of the game to earn his seventh save.
Mobile and Montgomery continue the three game series Thursday night with game two at River Walk Stadium scheduled for 7:05 PM. The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium Wednesday, July 11, to open up a three game homestand vs. the Huntsville Stars at 7:05 PM.
