MOBILE, Ala. - After a dramatic comeback on Sunday, the BayBears weren't awarded with the same fortunes on Monday as they were walloped by the Tennessee Smokies 7-1 at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Tennessee (47-60, 20-17) worked out an early lead as Doug Deeds and Jake Fox picked up back-to-back two-out doubles in the first inning against Adam Howard (6-6). After Fox's two-base knock, Tyler Colvin singled up the middle to bring home Fox, and the Smokies were up 2-0.

In the fourth, Tennessee added to their advantage with pitcher Grant Johnson (2-2) faking a sac bunt and singling down the first base line to draw Kyle Reynolds to the plate. Matt Camp followed to the plate later in the frame as Nate Spears singled him home. A home run by Reynolds extended the Smokies' lead to five in the top of the sixth, but the BayBears (46-60, 17-19) tagged the scoreboard in the last of the sixth on a base hit by Bryan Byrne.

With Guillermo Reyes streaking to the plate, Gerardo Parra was waved home from second but was gunned down by Sam Fuld to end the threat. Fox went deep in the seventh for the Smokies to send them up 6-1 while Colvin doubled in another run in the ninth to finish the scoring.

Tony Barnette (6-7, 4.18) takes the ball for the BayBears in game three of the series on Tuesday at Hank Aaron Stadium. He'll be opposed by left-hander James Russell (4-6, 5.31) at 7:05. Call (251) 479-BEAR for tickets or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
