New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
John Lieske (Heartland CC) gave the New Bedford Bay Sox their fifth quality start in six games Friday night at Robbie Mills Field, as the Bay Sox beat the Laconia Muskrats 5-4 in ten innings.
The Bay Sox scored the go-ahead run with a 2-out single from Kurt Seiders (Millersville) to right field that scored Carl Anderson (Braynt) from second.
Anderson led the Bay Sox offensively going 4-for-5 with 3 runs 2 RBIs and a 2-run homerun in the fifth.
Lieske went seven strong innings; allowing three runs on four hits and striking out seven to help give New Bedford their third straight win.
The Muskrats Evan Rahn (Wheaton) also had a strong outing as well allowing four runs on five hits in eight innings pitched.
The Bay Sox had a chance to win it in the ninth with a 4-3 lead but Trevor Lacosse (Bryant) couldn't hold on for his third save of the season.
With one out and the Muskrats trailing 4-3, Joey Bielek (Arizona State) hit a line drive solo homerun that bounced in and out of Bay Sox right fielder Anderson's glove when he hit the fence at full speed.
In the top of the fifth Anderson hit a homer to right field to give the Bay Sox a 4-1 lead.
It was Anderson's first homerun of the season, his second at Robbie Mills Field in his career.
The Muskrats responded with a 2-run homerun by Carter White (Memphis) in the bottom of the fifth that hit the scoreboard in right field.
White's first homerun of the summer brought the Muskrats back within a run.
The Muskrats put the first run on the board without a hit.
The Muskrats Jordan Lee (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) manufactured the first run of the game when he was walked to lead off the bottom of the third. Lee stole second and third before scoring on a White groundout to first base to make it 1-0.
The Bay Sox answered back in the top of the fourth with two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead.
A Ryan Plourde (Fairfield) fielder's choice scored Anderson to make it 1-1. Anderson led off the inning with the Bay Sox first hit of the game, a single to right field to make it 1-1. Chris Travers (Roger Williams) continued his hot hitting with a double past a diving Muskrats third baseman to score Seiders.
The Muskrats are now 5-3 in 1-run games, two of those games coming against New Bedford.
The Bay Sox move to 8-12 on the season.
New Bedford returns home for the weekend to face Plymouth on Saturday and Holyoke on Sunday.
