New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
Wakefield - The New Bedford Bay Sox offense was too much to handle for the Ocean State Waves, as New Bedford cruised to a 10 - 4 victory last night in Wakefield.
New Bedford bats came out early and often as each starting player successfully reached base. They saw half of their run production come from the men up the middle, Ted Shaw (Sacred Heart) and Tyler Orris (Millersville) each knocked two hits while scoring a couple of runs. Shaw opened up the scoring when he drove in Orris in the second inning.
Rowdy Andrews (Eckerd) continues too warm at the plate. He finished the night by going 2 for 4, driving in a couple and walking once. Andrews has seen his batting average creep up the past two games.
Ryan Baldwin (Barry), another finding comfort at the dish, added two base hits himself including a two-run double in the seventh inning. Anthony Critelli (Holy Cross) also had an rbi single in the seventh when the Bay Sox scored four.
The Bay Sox added to their cushion in the eighth inning when a passed ball scored Rowdy Andrews. They added one more in the ninth inning on a fielder's choice, scoring Critelli from third base. New Bedford's offense scored in each of the last four innings
Justin Thomas (Quinnipiac) hurled five complete innings while surrendering three runs on six hits. Thomas picked up the win in his efforts, his second of the season.
New Bedford got a solid four innings of work from their bullpen to close out the win. Phil Reese (Holy Cross) threw two innings of hit-less baseball, striking out one. Gabriel Rodriguez (Eastern Florida) made his Bay Sox debut, as he closed out the game in the bottom of the ninth. He surrendered one run on two hits but still shut the door on Ocean State.
The Bay Sox return home Sunday, June 28th, as they will host the Plymouth Pilgrims, as New Bedford looks to avenge their 13 - 6 defeat from the other day. Michael Young (Stonehill) looks to make the start for New Bedford.
