Bay Sox Start Fast in Win over Sanford

The Bay Sox opened up the game with back-to-back 2-run innings in their 7-3 win against the Sanford Mainers on Tuesday night at Paul Walsh Field.

New Bedford's Matt Lopez (San Jose St.) and Chris Travers (Roger Williams) led the way going 2 for 4 on the night with 1 RBI each. Sam Balzano (Maine) helped the Mainers going 2 for 3 and scoring a run.

Bay Sox starting pitcher Danny Tyson (Northwestern) received the win with 6.1 innings pitched, throwing 4 strikeouts. All 4 Bay Sox pitchers gave up a total of 6 hits.

The Bay Sox took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 2nd with 2 unearned runs scored by Christian Venditti (Georgetown) and Andrew Dundon (Marshall). New Bedford took advantage of the Mainers three errors, three pass balls, and three wild pitches on the night.

New Bedford managed to notch another run in the 4th and 5th innings to make it 6-2.

Sanford made 4 pitching changes giving up 11 hits and striking out 7.

The Mainers started the scoring early putting 2 on the board after the top of the first. The Bay Sox rallied back in the bottom of the inning with Carl Anderson (Bryant) (1 for 3) and Ryan Plourde (Fairfield) (2 for 2) crossing the plate.

Sanford remained quiet at the plate until the top of the 7th when Jake Thomas (Binghamton) scored off an error by Bay Sox catcher Travers to make it 6-3.

Chris Shaw (Boston College) scored the final run of the game off an RBI single by Travers to make it a 7-3 final.

The Bay Sox increase their record to 6-12. New Bedford's next home game is Saturday July 6th against the Plymouth Pilgrims at 6:30 PM.
