June 21, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
It was a tough night for the Bay Sox who racked up several hits but weren't able to get enough runs to beat the Mountaineers of Vermont.
The Bay Sox achieved the 1st hit of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning off a single by Seiders. But after a double play by the Mountaineers and an out at 1st base, the score remained 0-0. Vermont added their 1st hit and runs scored in the top of the 2nd. The Bay Sox answered back with a triple by Pomeroy, which brought in the 1st Bay Sox run scored by Dundon.
Vermont put up a fight in the top of the 3rd and after Roulis was walked, the bases were loaded with 2 outs. Nethaway hit a line drive shot that was caught by shortstop Richards to get the Bay Sox out of that jam. The Mountaineers added 1 run during the 3rd to bring the score to 2-1.
The Bay Sox changed things up in the top of the 4th with a pitching substitution replacing starter Perron with Friar. The Mountaineers managed to add 2 more runs in the top of the 4th (4-1) before catcher Travers caught a pop up to end the half inning. Vermont added another run in the 5th (5-1) while the Bay Sox didn't add any but made another pitching change to Janco.
It wasn't until the bottom of the 5th where the Bay Sox managed to add 3 runs off a double by Travers, a base hit by Seiders, and a sacrifice fly from Anderson. Vermont responded with a pitching change to Strader and he managed to help end the inning for the Mountaineers.
In the 6th, Vermont added 2 runs and Janco managed to end the inning with a strikeout. The Bay Sox answered back with 1 run off a base hit by Seiders. The 7th inning brought multiple hits for both teams but 0 runs on both sides.
In the top of the 8th the Bay Sox made a pitching change, putting Brown on the mound. The field was able to prevent any more runs scored by the Mountaineers with 2 of the 3 outs caused by Brown. The Mountaineers made a pitching change to Grossfeld, which didn't seem to help the Bay Sox as they couldn't add a run. Score remains at 7-5.
The Bay Sox made their 4th pitching change of the game putting in Tyson in the top of the 9th and the team managed to hold off Vermont keeping the score at 7-5. The Bay Sox had nothing to say in the bottom of the 9th and after a combined 23 hits between the teams, the final score was 7-5 in favor of Vermont.
The Bay Sox record is now 3-6 while Vermont adds a win to make their record 8-2. The Bay Sox's next home game is Saturday June 22nd at 6:30 against Sanford at Paul Walsh Field.
