July 29, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
New Bedford Bay Sox News Release

New Bedford's starter CJ Tsoumakas (Rhode Island College) went the distance and the Bay Sox came from behind to beat the Laconia Muskrats 5-4 Monday afternoon at Paul Walsh Field.

Tsoumakas threw a complete game and got the win, allowing four runs on ten hits and four strikeouts.

Laconia starter, Evan Phillips (North Carolina Wilmington), almost matched Tsoumakas. Phillips went seven innings, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out five.

In the middle innings both pitchers had a combined streak of 18 batters retired in a row.

The Bay Sox were trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of eighth when they finally got to Phillips.

Alex Witkus (Fairfield) got the inning started with a groundball single into left field. Witkus stole second and eventually scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Ryan Plourde (Fairfield) gave the Bay Sox the lead with a single, and an RBI single from Chris Shaw (Boston College) made it 4-2 Bay Sox. Another wild pitch allowed Plourde to come in making it 5-2 Sox. That was the exact number of insurance runs they needed to get the win.

The Muskrats made it a one run ball game in the top of the ninth, but stranded the tying and go-ahead run on second and third to end the game.

Shaw led the Bay Sox offensively going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

With the win the Bay Sox move to 18-22. New Bedford hits the road tomorrow for a split-doubleheader against Laconia and Sanford.
