New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
The New Bedford Bay Sox got an unconventional 6-5 win against the Plymouth Pilgrims Wednesday night at Paul Walsh Field.
South Coast local and NECBL All-Star Chris Travers (Roger Williams) stepped up to the plate with one out in the bottom of the ninth and the bases loaded. Travers ended the game getting hit by a pitch from Pilgrims' Alex Ferina (Lafayette).
The Pilgrims jumped on the scoreboard first.
Garret Stubbs (UC Davis) started the fourth with a leadoff walk. Stubbs would later steal second and was driven in by a screaming line-drive off the bat of Ryan Richardson (Michigan St.) to give the Pilgrims a 1-0 lead.
The Bay Sox rallied back in the bottom of the fourth.
Ryan Plourde (Fairfield) started the inning with a ground ball base hit up the middle. Travers followed with a base hit of his own into right. Chris Shaw (Boston College) loaded the bases after taking a ball off the arm. Plourde, Travers, and Shaw scored off a sac-fly and base hits from Carl Anderson (Bryant) and Alex Witkus (Fairfield) to give the Bay Sox a 3-1 lead.
The Bay Sox tacked on another run in the sixth when Anderson and Andrew Dundon (Marshall) switched places on second base with back to back doubles.
Plymouth struck in the eighth to cut New Bedford's lead to one.
Plymouth's Steven Patterson (UC Davis) drove in Ryan Stephens (Tennessee St.) with a double over the left fielders head. Later in the inning, Adam Young (UC Davis) dropped down a safety squeeze to score Patterson.
In the bottom of the eighth, Nogay gave the Bay Sox an insurance run with an homer over the left field fence for his second homerun in two home games.
In the top of the 9th Plymouth battled back once again.
Pilgrims Blake Lacey (USC) and Jacob Robson (Mississippi St.) started the inning with back to back walks. With the Plymouth down to their final strike and runners on second and third, Vin Guglietti (Quinnipiac) came through in the clutch with a well-placed sinking liner into right field to send the game into the bottom of the ninth with the score tied at five.
The Bay Sox play at home again tomorrow at 6:30 PM against the Sanford Mainers.
