Charleston Battery News Release

CHARLESTON - The Battery will open its 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign at home at MUSC Health Stadium in the tournament's second round on Wednesday, May 18, against the winner of a first-round match-up between Florida teams.

Charleston will host the winner of a May 11th first-round showdown in The Villages, Fla., a planned retirement community in Central Florida, between The Villages S.C. of the PDL, and Kraze United, an NPSL team located in Orlando.

This is the 103rd edition of the Open Cup, featuring a field of 92 teams. Seventeen of the USL's 29 teams will compete, with seven of those teams set to host on May 18, U.S. Soccer announced Wednesday in revealing the draw for this year's first round.

The Battery are the most recent team from the lower divisions to reach the Open Cup Final, falling to D.C. United 2-1 in 2008. Last year the Battery reached the Fourth Round, where it went to Added Extra Time with Major League Soccer's Orlando City S.C. tied 2-2, then scored two late goals to draw the game 4-4 and force the outcome to a shootout. Orlando advanced after 10 rounds.

Tickets to match will go on sale in May and will be available over the phone or online.
