Match Preview: Islanders Kickoff 2016 Keystone Derby Saturday

April 6, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

Harrisburg, PA - For the third straight game City Islanders FC will be paying in hostile territory when they take the field for the first leg of the Keystone Derby Cup in Pittsburgh this Saturday, April 9 at 7 p.m.

This year the Keystone Derby Cup has grown to include K&L Gates and The Pennsylvania Lottery as the presenting sponsors of this version of the intrastate rivalry, which was one of the fiercest competitions all last year.

In the four meetings between the clubs last season, two resulted in epic and almost unbelievable comebacks. This included a 4-3 win by City after being down by two goals and playing with only 10 men on the pitch.

Pittsburgh was ultimately able to win the inaugural Keystone Derby Cup with a 2-1 victory on City Island that kept the Islanders out of playoff contention for the first time in three years.

Fast forward to this season and both teams would have liked a better start to the 2016 campaign. City has dropped their first two games on the road, while the Riverhounds lost their only game thus far.

City has only been able to net two goals in the first two games. Jose Barril scored the opening goal of the season late in the first half of the 3-1 season opening loss in Richmond. In the next game, Craig Foster started the scoring just three minutes in, but City couldn't keep the pressure on and fell to Charlotte 2-1.

Unlike the Islanders, Pittsburgh will be home for the second straight game of the season. The Riverhounds opened up the season last week against the Rochester Rhinos, the USL defending champions, in a 1-0 loss.

After the first match-up of cross-state rivals City will take the road for a fourth time this season when they travel to Titan Soccer Complex and take on USL newcomer Orlando City FC B.

The long road stint will end when City will take FNB Field for the first time in the team's history against Louisville FC on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m.
