
Battery Takes On Monarchs Tuesday Night

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery (1-0-1, 4 points, 1st place USL2) squares off with the Real Maryland Monarchs Tuesday night in Rockville, MD (6:30 PM) in the first ever meeting between the clubs. The Battery was held to a 0-0 tie by the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday night, the Monarchs enter the game on the back of a 2-0 win versus the Harrisburg City Islanders.
Tuesday's game is available via a live audio broadcast at www.charlestonbattery.com or locally on 950 AM with the pre-match build up starting at 6:15 PM; fan's can also follow the game live via Twitter at chas_battery.
The Charleston Battery opened the season with a 3-2 road win in Charlotte but could not break down a resilient Pittsburgh side at Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday night. Riverhounds goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap was in superb form recording seven saves including a penalty stop in the 70th minute denying Battery forward Amaury Nunes.
Charleston head coach Mike Anhaeuser made two changes against the Riverhounds to the side that defeated Charlotte inserting Levi Coleman up front for Brandon Massie and starting veteran defender John Wilson in place of Colin Falvey.
Goalkeeper Tim Melia made two saves as the Battery out shot Pittsburgh 14 to 5.
Defender Mike Zaher suffered a rib injury in the match and will not travel with the team to Maryland.
Real Maryland opened the season with a 0-0 tie at home to Pittsburgh then on Saturday handed the Harrisburg City Islanders a 2-0 loss in a game played in Harrisburg. Sean Rush opened the scoring in the 17th minute and Ben Hunter secured the points with a 90th minute penalty.
The Monarchs are led by second year head coach Anthony Hudson who guided his side to the USL2 playoffs in 2009 with and 8-10-2 record. Hudson previously served as an assistant coach with the Wilmington Hammerheads.
Following Tuesday's game against Real Maryland the Battery returns to Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday night for a 7:30 PM match versus the Charlotte Eagles ($10 - $18, www.charlestonbattery.com, 971-4625). It's Family night on Saturday presented by McAlister Development Company and families can get four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for only $30.
