Battery signs Doyle and Karalexis

Charleston SC. The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with goalkeeper Chris Doyle for the 2005 season. In his first two seasons with the Battery Doyle played a total of 13 games with 4 wins, 4 losses and 5 ties. Doyle has recorded three shut-outs with an overall G.A.A of 0.98. Defender Tim Karalexis has also signed for the 2005 season. The 2004 PSL Defender of the Year comes to the Battery after spending the previous three years with the Wilmington Hammerheads of the PSL.

A native of Dublin, CA, Doyle, 6'5", 205 lbs., 25 yrs., was a four-year starter at the University of Hartford. Doyle graduated with a degree in Communications.

Tim Karalexis attended Charleston Battery player trials in 2002 but signed his first pro-contract with the Wilmington Hammerheads. Karalexis has kept close ties with the Battery since and was added to the Charleston Battery roster on-loan at the end of the 2003 season. Karalexis was also a member of the 2004 USL All-Star team that tied 0-0 with the England National Game XI at Blackbaud Stadium on June 9, 2004.

A native of Weymouth, MA, Karalexis 6'2", 185 lbs., 24 yrs., was voted 2004 PSL Defender of the Year in addition to being named to the PSL 2004 All-League first team. Karalexis was a member of the Wilmington side that won the 2003 PSL Championship. Before joining the Hammerheads Karalexis was a two-time All-American at St Anselm College.

Karalexis recently returned from a trial with Sunderland AFC of the English Championship. Sunderland AFC invited Karalexis over to the UK after he impressed during an exhibition game played in the summer. The Battery also played Sunderland AFC during their pre-season tour, defeating the Black Cats by a score of two goals to one.
