Battery Opens Pre-Season Camp

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery began its pre-season camp on Thursday as the final set of invitation-only trialists arrived for a weekend of testing and games. The trialists join the current Charleston Battery players as head coach Mike Anhaeuser prepares to make roster decisions ahead of next Saturday's Carolina Challenge Cup opener versus Major League Soccer's D.C. The players will undergo fitness testing over the weekend in addition to playing a number of intra-squad scrimmages. This final trial camp includes 20 new prospects that have been invited to Blackbaud Stadium for a chance to earn a professional contract.

Battery Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser commented "It is always exciting on the first day of pre-season camp as we start to finalize our 2011 roster with trialists as well a few of our signed players".

After the March 5 game against D.C. United the Charleston Battery takes on MLS's Toronto FC on Wednesday, March 9 and concludes the Carolina Challenge Cup on Saturday, March 12 with a game versus the Chicago Fire. Both games are set to kick off at 7:15 PM at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island.
