Rochester Rhinos News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rhinos announced that the Smoking and Health Action Coalition (SHAC) will be club's primary jersey sponsor for the 2011 season.

The Smoking & Health Action Coalition (SHAC) is a Community Partnership of the New York State Tobacco Control Program and serves residents of Monroe County. SHAC has been in existence for more than 20 years.

"The Smoking and Health Action Coalition is excited about our partnership with the Rochester Rhinos," said Mary Judge, Director of the Smoking & Health Action Coalition. "We're especially grateful to the Rhinos for committing to being a tobacco- free team and setting a strong example for our youth. Protecting our kids from the dangers of tobacco and the marketing of tobacco products requires the effort of the entire community. We're proud to partner with the Rhinos in this effort and hope that Monroe County residents will join our fight by visiting smokefreemonroe.com."

Funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health through the American Lung Association in New York, SHAC works to decrease the social acceptability of tobacco use; prevent the initiation of tobacco use among youth and young adults; and eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke.

"The Lung Association is proud to partner with the Rochester Rhinos to help raise awareness about the dangers of smoking and set a positive example for our youth and the entire community," said Irwin Berlin M.D, Board Chair of the American Lung Association in New York. "Smoking not only cuts lives short, it saps people's ability to play fun sports like soccer and live full, active lives. We're grateful to the Rhinos for helping us amplify this message so we can prevent more kids from ever starting to smoke."
