Battery Loses to Silverbacks

Charleston, SC - The Charleston Battery lost to the Atlanta Silverbacks by a score of four goals to two tonight at Blackbaud Stadium in front of a crowd of 5,022. With the loss Charleston drops to a record of 2-3-3, 9 points, 6th place in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta improves to 3-3-1, 10 points, 5th place in the Conference.

Atlanta opened the scoring in the 21st minute. A shot by forward Gary Brooks was parried away by Charleston goalkeeper Dusty Hudock. Midfielder Alex Pineda-Chacon was first to the loose ball and chipped home for the goal.

The Silverbacks doubled their lead in the 40th minute. The Battery defense failed to clear an Atlanta throw-in. Gary Brooks timed his run and lifted the ball over Hudock and into the goal.

Charleston pulled a goal back in the 50th minute. Forward Wolde Harris created some space just outside the box. He adjusted then fired a dipping shot past Atlanta goalkeeper, Joe Barton into the goal.

The Silverbacks scored two unanswered goals to extend their lead to 4-1. The first goal came via an Adilson Lima free kick. The next was scored by former Battery midfielder Mac Cozier in the 67th minute.

The Battery tallied a consolation goal in the 85th minute, substitute forward Chris Bagley ran onto a Justin Evans pass and tucked the ball neatly into the lower right-hand corner.
