
Battery gets set for Miami

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery (1-1-2) takes on the Miami FC Blues (1-3-1) Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:30 PM, kick off is set for 8:00 PM ($8 - $15, 971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com). The Battery is coming off a 2-0 win versus the Rochester Rhinos, Miami enters the game on the back of a 1-0 loss to the Carolina RailHawks; Friday's game will be broadcast live on FOX Soccer Channel.
This is the second game of the year between Charleston and Miami; the Battery came from behind twice on the opening day of the season (April 12) to earn a 2-2 tie in a game played in Miami. Rookie midfielder Dominic Cianciarulo scored both Charleston goals on his professional debut.
The Charleston Battery secured its first win of the season last Friday night with a 2-0 result over the Rochester Rhinos in a game played at Blackbaud Stadium. Forward Randi Patterson scored Charleston's first goal, Aaron King added the second after coming off the bench in the second half.
Battery defender John Wilson will be available for selection Friday night after serving a one game suspension last week. Midfielder's Chris Corcoran, Ian Fuller and Dominic Cianciarulo all resumed full activity in training this week as they return from injury.
Miami has lost three games so far this year including last weekend's 1-0 reverse versus the RailHawks. Miami's lone win was a 2-0 result against the Puerto Rico Islanders in Puerto Rico on April 25.
Miami's offense is led by new Brazilian striker Alex Afonso who has managed three goals and an assist in five games played.
Miami FC Blues appointed former Brazilian FIFA World Cup winner Zinho as its new head coach during the off-season. Zinho played for Miami for the previous two seasons.
Go Green Night - Fireworks
It's Go Green Night on Friday presented by MUSC with a free recycled plastic water bottle for the first 2000 fans through the turnstiles; as part of the celebration there will be over 30 local green happenings in Charleston.
The Battery has arranged for a free biodiesel bus pick-up and drop off between North Charleston and Blackbaud Stadium on Friday evening. The bus will leave from Madra Rua Irish Pub in North Charleston starting at 5:45 PM. Immediately following the match there will be a fireworks display from the solar panel end of the stadium.
