Battery faces Sounders in regular season finale

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery welcomes the Seattle Sounders to Blackbaud Stadium Friday night for a USL First Division match; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. This is the second game of the season between the two clubs. On May 14 the Sounders defeated the Battery 1-0 in a game played in Seattle; midfielder Brent Whitfield scored the lone goal in the 67th minute.

The Battery (8-13-5, 29 points) enters the game in 8th position and is still battling for the 6th and final playoff spot. Charleston needs to win both remaining games and then would still need some help in order to advance to the post-season. The Battery's final regular season game in on Sunday at Virginia Beach. Ahead of Charleston in the standings are the Portland Timbers (32 pts) and the Atlanta Silverbacks (30 pts).

The Sounders are led by Head Coach Brian Schmetzer who is in his fourth year with the Club; he played for the Sounders in both the NASL and the USL First Division. In 2004 Schmetzer guided the Sounders to an appearance in the USL First Division Championship game where they lost 2-0 to the Montreal Impact.

Fan Appreciation Night It's Fan Appreciation Night at Blackbaud Stadium this Friday and the first 750 fans through the turnstiles will receive a voucher for a free pint of Wholly Cow Psychedelic Strawberry ice-cream. At half time there will be a presentation of the annual Charleston Battery Player awards. Drew Kopp named to USL First Division Team of the Week Charleston Battery defender Drew Kopp has been named to the USL First Division team of the week following his strong defensive display in last weekends 1-0 win versus the Portland Timbers. Kopp anchored the Battery defense as it earned its 6th shut-out of the 2005 campaign.
