Battery faces Islanders in playoff series - tickets on sale today

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery closed out the regular season Sunday night with a 0-0 tie versus the Rochester Raging Rhinos. The Battery finishes in third position and will now play the Puerto Rico Islanders in the first round of the USL First Division playoffs. Charleston hosts Puerto Rico in the first game of the home and home series this Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium; kick off is set for 7:30 PM. Friday's fixture will be a milestone for goalkeeper Dusty Hudock who is set to play his 200th game for the Battery.

The Battery travels to Puerto Rico on Sunday for the second game of the aggregate score series; kick off is set for 7:30 PM.

Charleston played Puerto Rico four times during the regular season losing twice and tieing twice. The Islanders finished the season in sixth position; this is the first time in franchise history that Puerto Rico has advanced to the post-season.

The winner of the Battery Islanders series will take on the Rochester Raging Rhinos in a semifinal playoff series September 22-24.

Hudock set to play 200th game for Battery

Charleston Battery goalkeeper Dusty Hudock is set to play his 200th game for the Battery this Friday versus the Puerto Rico Islanders (Blackbaud Stadium, 7:30 PM). Hudock has started 199 games for the Battery over the past eight years most recently posting a shut-out in last Sunday's 0-0 tie versus Rochester. Hudock is enjoying a banner year; he has played 22 games with 12 wins, 6 losses and 4 ties and accumulated a stingy GAA (goals against average) of just 0.8.

Hudock is the all time leader in games played at the Charleston Battery; he surpassed forward Paul Conway's previous high mark (194) earlier this season. On the way to 200 games Hudock has amassed an overall record of 108 wins with 72 shut-outs. Hudock has played 18,312 minutes in a Charleston Battery uniform with an overall GAA of 1.05. Heading into the playoffs Hudock is ranked third in the league in wins (11), tied for second in shut-outs (9), and fourth in GAA (0.80).

Hudock returned to Charleston in 2006 after spending the 2005 campaign with the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Hudock played six previous seasons for the Charleston Battery (1999 - 2004) and was a member of Charleston's 2003 USL First Division Championship winning team. Hudock has twice been named USL First Division Goalkeeper of the Year (1997 & 2002).

Hudock's individual honors include: Charleston Battery MVP (2002, 2003 & 2004), Charleston Battery Defender of the Year (2001, 2002 & 2006), and USL First Division Goalkeeper of the Year (1997, 2002).
