
Battery Begins Preseason

Charleston, SC - The Charleston Battery 2004 preseason begins today with fitness testing for the players at Trident Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation. Training proper starts Friday with continued fitness testing at the Charleston Battery practice facility on Daniel Island. The players have one week to prepare for the first preseason exhibition vs. Major League Soccer's DC United, the opening match of the 2004 Carolina Challenge Cup.
Charleston Battery head coach, Chris Ramsey,
"After a long layoff I'm sure the players are eager to finally start the preseason. We intend to begin steadily but are mindful of the first game next week against DC United. We'll be working hard all week and with a sizeable squad there will be plenty of competition for starting places".
The Carolina Challenge Cup is a four team round-robin tournament; all the Battery's games take place at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island. After Saturday's match with DC United, the Battery takes on the Columbus Crew on Wednesday, March 24; kickoff 7:30 PM and then finishes the tournament with a game against the PSL Champion Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday, March 27; 6:00 PM.
The final match of the tournament follows the Battery Hammerheads match-up with DC United playing the Columbus Crew; kickoff is set for 8:15 PM.
The Charleston Battery's defense of its 2003 A-League Nation Championship begins on the road, April 17 vs. longtime rival, the Richmond Kickers. The 2004 Home Opener is April 24 at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island also vs. the Kickers; kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.
Carolina Challenge Cup Tickets
Tickets for the games played at Blackbaud Stadium are on sale now. Fans can purchase tickets for individual games or for the four match series. Tickets for the March 20 & March 24, MLS games are priced at $15 Club / Box and $10 bleacher. March 27 double-header tickets are $20 Club / Box and $15 bleacher.
