Bats come alive; Aviators even-up series

ROBSTOWN, Texas – The Coastal Bend Aviators evened up the three-game series with a 10-6 win Saturday night against the Shreveport Sports. The rubber match will be tomorrow at 6:05.

Stephen Morales hit a two-run homer in the second inning giving the Aviators a 2-0 lead. After Jack Joffrion tripled, Edwin Maldonado hit a sacrifice fly scoring Joffrion making the score 3-0.

Shreveport scored two runs in the third inning on Michael Hicks single cutting the score to 3-2.

In the fourth inning the Aviators broke the game wide open. Matt Mann and Carlos Figueroa hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Then Mike Guerrero added a RBI single. Kenny Hansley also had a RBI single in the inning and later scored on a wild pitch making the score 8-2.

The Aviators added two more runs in the seventh inning. Mann drove in two more on a single in the inning.

Mann finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBI. Joffrion was 4-for-5 with three runs scored.

Shreveport scored three runs in the ninth inning to make the game appear closer than it was. Hicks drove in two runs in the inning on a single.

Jose Luis Lopez (1-3) lasted eight innings giving up nine hits and no earned runs to pick up the win. Jason Benson (1-2) gave up six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss for Shreveport.
