Johnstown RiverHawks News Release
The Johnstown (PA) Riverhawks of the Atlantic Indoor Football League have named Brian Basile as their head coach. Currently serving as the defensive coordinator at Conemaugh Township High School in PA, Basile has a history on the sidelines for Johnstown's previous indoor football teams. In 2000, he was the defensive coordinator and recruitment coordinator for the Johnstown Jackals of the Indoor Football League (IFL) and served the next season as defensive coordinator for the Johnstown J-Dogs of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL).
He also has high school coaching experience, having served as assistant varsity coach at Cambria (1981-85), Johnstown (1986-91) and Richland (2001) high schools.
The Riverhawks will be Basile's first head coaching job.
Basile, who was a defensive back at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1978-1980, says Johnstown fans are ready to embrace another indoor football team.
"I don't think there's a day that's gone by since the J-Dogs left that someone hasn't stopped me on the street and asked 'When are we getting another indoor football team?', said Basile. "and then, when the (Riverhawks) were announced, a day didn't go by when someone didn't ask me, 'Are you going to coach this team?'".
The Riverhawks will call Cambria County War Memorial Center their home for the inaugural season of the team and the AIFL.
