BASEBALL AMERICA ANNOUNCES 2009 ALL-INDY TEAM

DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League had four players named to Baseball America's 2009 All-Independent Leagues First Team: Quebec Capitales 1B/C Pierre-Luc LaForest, Brockton Rox INF Melvin Falu, New Jersey Jackals LHP AJ Wideman and Brockton RHP Wayne Lundgren.

LaForest, the league's Player of the Year, hit .277 with 24 home runs, 82 RBI and a .563 slugging percentage. He was first in the league in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage and extra base hits (47). He also finished third in on-base percentage (.403) and runs scored (69). La Forest won the Teamline Direct Batter of the Week award three times this season as well as the B45's July Batter of the Month. He was named to the Can-Am's postseason all-star team.

Falu was selected as a member of the league's 2009 postseason all-star team. The Carolina, PR resident hit .328 with seven home runs, 63 RBI and 107 hits. He was second in the Can-Am in hitting and third in doubles (25).

Wideman went 10-1 for New Jersey with a 2.51 ERA in 18 starts. The southpaw allowed only 18 walks in 114 2/3 innings pitched and held opponents to a batting average of .214. He paced the league in ERA and tied for first in wins. Wideman was B45's June and July Pitcher of the Month and selected as the lefthanded pitcher on the postseason all-star team.

Lundgren had a record of 9-5 for the Rox with an earned run average of 2.75. He led the league in complete games (5) and innings pitched (127 2/3), tied for first in shutouts (2), second in ERA and fourth in strikeouts (78). He was a two-time pitcher of the week and chosen the righthanded pitcher on the postseason all-star team.

New Hampshire/New Jersey Jackals OF Jerod Edmondson was named to Baseball America's second team. Edmondson hit .332 with 13 home runs and 51 runs driven in. Edmondson finished in the league's top five in seven different offensive categories.
