Philadelphia Barrage News Release

Philadelphia, PA (February 16, 2006) - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, traded Keith Cromwell (A), John Kasselakis (G)(Umass '98) along with the 16th and 19th picks in 2006 Collegiate Draft to the Long Island Lizards. In exchange, the Barrage received Jack deVilliers (M/FO), Justin Smith (M), the 9th overall pick in the 2006 Collegiate Draft and a second round pick in the 2007 Supplemental Draft.

"This year's Collegiate Draft is projected to be a good one based on the talented graduating senior class," said Barrage General Manager, Keith Mecca. "We're pleased to have an additional pick (9th pick) in the first round to go with our 6th pick."

Cromwell, who played four years with the Barrage, played a total of 48 games, starting 33. He took 165 shots; scoring 77 goals, six 2-point-goals, 56 assists for 139 points and collected 50 ground balls. "Cromwell, who did not play in the league last season, now has the opportunity to return to the MLL by playing for his hometown team," according to Mecca.

Virginia graduate deVilliers, was a four-year starter and a National Champion. As a rookie in 2005 for the MLL, deVilliers played 10 games and started one for Long Island. He recorded four points (2G,2A) and collected 62 ground balls. He took 258 face offs; winning 122, for a 47.3% win average. "We're excited to get Jack [deVilliers] who was one of the top face-off men in the league last year as a rookie," said Mecca. "He will fill the void left by Doug Shanahan who we lost in the Expansion Draft."

In his senior year at Salisbury State University, Smith played and started in all 20 games. He recorded 88 points (49G,39A) and collected 50 ground balls. He was a three-time National Champion, a two-time All American and in 2005 was the Division III Midfielder and Player of the Year. Smith was a rookie in the MLL in 2005 playing for the Rochester Rattlers. He played in two games, recording three points (3G). "Justin [Smith] adds speed and quickness to our midfield. Also, he knows how to win coming from the great Salisbury Program. A player with that background is always an asset," said Mecca.

Philadelphia opens their season on May 20 at historic Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by five games at Villanova University. Season tickets are on sale now. Mini-plans and full season packages are available. Call the Barrage ticket office at (610) 355-8999 for more details.
