
Barrage Strengthen Roster In Collegiate Draft

Philadelphia, PA (June 2, 2005) â The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor lacrosse league, drafted new collegiate talent in the draft at Scared Heart University last night.
Philadelphia started off with a second overall pick and chose attackman Jed Prossner of North Carolina. Prossner, a native of Easton, Md., was team captain for the 2005 season and has started every game in his career at Carolina. He led the Tar Heels in scoring his freshman, sophomore and junior years, ranking second in scoring this past season. One of five Tar Heels to be selected All-ACC three times in their career at Carolina.
Prossner was named first-team All-American for two years in a row including this past season.
In the second round of the draft, the Barrage picked up attackman Kyle Barrie of Johns Hopkins and midfielder Justin Redd of Cornell. Barrie, a local product from Narbeth, PA who graduated from The Haverford School, was a four-year starter for Hopkins including the 2005 NCAA Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field on May 30 where Hopkins beat Duke 9-8. He ranks in the top 10 in JHU history for goals and points. Barrie is tied for third in scoring with 37 points (26G, 11A) as a junior; he lead the Blue Jays his sophomore year with 57 points (37G, 20A). Barrie is a two time All-American at Hopkins.
Redd was named first-team All-Ivy League this past season after helping Cornell to an Ivy League title. Before the 2005 season, Redd earned third-team All-American. He scored 31 points his freshman year and set the school record for points by a midfielder. Redd grew up in his hometown of Towson, Md.
Philadelphia had a pass in the third round of selection but chose defenseman Jeff Bigas of Salisbury State University in the fourth round. Bigas hails from Media, Pa. and graduated from Penncrest High School. He collected a total of 108 ground balls this past season at Salisbury. He has a career total of 19 points (14G, 5A) in four years. Bigas played in the 2005 NCAA DIII Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field on May 29 where Salisbury beat Middlebury 11-10.
In the fifth and final round, the Barrage chose midfielder Ryan Vilar of Hofstra who grew up in Plantsville, Ct. Face-Off Yearbook picked him as a preseason All-American honorable mention. Named to the Colonial Athletic Association second team after scoring 24 points (15G, 9A) as a junior. Scored a career total of 57 points (40G, 17A) in his five years at Hofstra.
The Barrage see game action on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Villanova Stadium against the Long Island Lizards and former goalie, Greg Cattrano, who help the Barrage to the 2004 MLL Champions.
