Philadelphia Barrage News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. July 9, 2003) - The Bridgeport Barrage, Connecticut's only professional lacrosse team and a charter member of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), announced today that Second Team All-American Goalie, Rob Scherr will be added to the roster for their upcoming game against the Long Island Lizards.
Scherr, who started all 16 games for Johns Hopkins University and led them to the NCAA Finals vs. Virginia in 2003, joins the Barrage as they look for their first win this Saturday. Scherr had a career high 18 saves against the Cavaliers in the title game. The Blue Jays Defense held fourteen of sixteen opponents to nine goals or less during the 2003 season as Scherr posted an impressive 7.12 goals against average, which ranked sixth overall in the NCAA. Scherr also ranked fourteenth overall in save percentage with a .601.
Johns Hopkins reached the fourteen win mark for only the third time in school history in 2003, with Scherr between the posts, a feat that had not been accomplished since 1980 (14-1) and 1984 (14-0). Rob joins two other former Johns Hopkins All-Americans, Defenseman Rob Doerr (2000), and Attackman Dan Denihan (2000).
The next Barrage home game is July 12, as the Long Island Lizards travel to Harbor Yard, for a 7:00 p.m. start. Tickets can be purchased in person at Harbor Yard Box Office, by calling 203-345-4800 ext. 150 or via the internet by logging onto www.bridgeportbarrage.com.
