
Barrage fall to the Cannons, 20-18

(Boston, MA- Nickerson Field) The Philadelphia Barrage, a Charter Member of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), was defeated by the Boston Cannons, 20-18, tonight at Nickerson Field in front of fans 5,643. Philadelphia's Blake Miller tallied 7 points(6g,1a) for the night while Ryan Boyle recorded 6 (1g, 5a). Keith Cromwell notched 5 points (3g, 2a). Boston Cannons Mike Watson recorded 5 goals for the night and was also named Bud Light MVP. Conor Gill scored 6 points (3g, 3a), and former Philadelphia Barrage member Chris Rotelli had 4 points (3g, 1a).
Just 4:67 into the first quarter, Philadelphia Barrage rookie sensation Boyle had already registered three points, 1 goal and 2 assists. Michael Springer had two goals early on from the help of Boyle. Cromwell lasered two shots past Boston Cannons goalie Kevin O'Brien, all within 1:08. Cromwell also assisted a goal from BJ Prager, giving Philadelphia a lead of 6-2 at the end of the first.
Mike Regan of the Cannons scored a two point goal in the beginning of the second stanza, followed by a goal from Rotelli and Gill, taking away the Barrage lead and tying the score 6-6. Miller retaliated to the Boston surge by dumping in a goal at 12:32. Cannons Watson gave Boston their first lead of the night with a goal at 7:51. He added another, as did Gill, before the end of the first half. Boston outscored Philadelphia 7-1 in the second quarter.
The score going into the second half was 10-7, Boston. Miller opened up the third quarter exactly like the second, with a goal assisted by Boyle. Mike Mollot added another for Philadelphia, bringing the lead within 2. The Cannons kept on fighting, recording two goals from Watson and David Evans within 21 seconds of one another. Matt Striebel notched his first goal of the night with 43 seconds to go in the period, leaving the Cannons in lead 14-12.
Rotelli scored again for the Cannons to open up the last quarter, but three goals from Philadelphia's Striebel, Roy Colsey, and Cromwell followed, tying the game. Miller tallied another goal at 8:53, securing the Barrage lead 16-15 for the first time since the first quarter. Conor Gill rocked the back of the net 53 seconds later fixing the score at 16-16. Watson of the Cannons scored back to back goals giving Boston a 2 goal lead. Immediately following this, David Evans notched a goal. Miller and Doug Shanahan registered another goal for the Barrage, but the Cannons still took the game 20-18.
After tonight, Philadelphia falls 3-4, while Boston advances 6-1 The Barrage will play the Long Island Lizards at home next Thursday, July 15th. This game also includes the MLL Skills Competition. Tickets are still available by calling (888) 450-7802 or logging onto www.TheBarrage.com .
