East Windsor, NJ - The Long Island Lizards defeated the New Jersey Pride, 20-18, in front of 4,367 fans at Mercer County Park on Saturday afternoon. Long Island goaltender Brian Dougherty spoiled the day for the Pride, recording an all-time league record 33 saves, as the Lizards used a balanced attack to put away New Jersey in a must-win game.

"It's very frustrating," said Pride attackman Jesse Hubbard. "You take shots that normally would go in, and now twice this season guys have a game against us where it appears almost impossible to score."

Eleven different players recorded goals for Long Island. Tim Goettelmann (3G, 2A), Jay Jalbert (3G, 1A) and Kevin Finneran (3G) each recorded hat-tricks, while Chris Massey (2G, 2A), Jarred Testa (2G, 1A) and Ken Garcia (2G) each added two goals. Kevin Lowe (1G, 2A), Steve Sombrotto, Corey Harned, Andrew Wasik and Shawn Lyons added a goal apiece.

New Jersey was led by Dave Curry (3G, 1A), Scott Dooley (3G, 1A) and Walid Hajj (3G, 1A). Jesse Hubbard was held to only two goals by Lizards defenseman Pat McCabe, and 2003 Cascade Rookie of the Year Adam Doneger was held to only one goal. Trevor Tierney recorded 13 saves in goal.

Hubbard scored the first goal of the game to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead, but the Lizards rattled off four consecutive goals to take a lead they would never relinquish. Long Island blew the game open in the second quarter, and held a 12-5 lead early in the third quarter, and a 19-12 lead halfway through the fourth quarter.

Dave Curry was able to cut the lead to 19-15 with two straight goals, including a two-pointer, and Scott Urick matched the feat after Jalbert scored Long Island's 20th goal to make the score 20-18. However, Chris Cercy, who struggled most of the game, came up with a big faceoff win, and Long Island ran out the final 48 seconds to hold on for the victory.

The Lizards improve to 4-2, keeping pace with the Boston Cannons in the American Division title race. Long Island meets the Philadelphia Barrage on Thursday evening at Villanova Stadium.
