Philadelphia Barrage News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - Despite a five-goal effort by Barrage midfielder Roy Colsey, the Barrage fell short to the Rochester Rattlers, 11-16 at Paetec Park Saturday evening. This is the second tough loss for the Barrage this season, dropping them to a 3-2 record in the Eastern Conference. The Bud Light MVP was Brandon Spillett of Rochester with four goals.
Rochester started the game off early getting two quick goals within 32 seconds of each other. Barrage midfielder Colsey answered back with a goal off an assist from Michael Springer. Springer then followed up with a goal of his own to tie the game with under five minutes left to play in the quarter. Rochester's Colin Doyle put his team in the lead once again with a goal at the four-minute mark. But Philadelphia had other plans; Springer scored his second of the quarter, followed by another goal from Colsey. The Barrage took the lead by one to end the first quarter. Each teams defense kept the second quarter scoreless for almost eight minutes. Midfielder Justin Smith broke the lull and scored his first of the night for the Barrage, giving his team the lead. Rochester then came back and went on a four-goal run, giving them a two-goal cushion with under two minutes left in the half. But Springer, off an assist from Ryan Boyle, followed by two goals from Colsey, not only tied the game with about a minute to play but also gave the Barrage a one-goal lead ending the half. The score at the half was Philadelphia 8, Rochester 7.
Rochester defenseman Brodie Merrill tied the game at eight early in the second half but Barrage midfielder Bobby Horsey scored his first goal of the night to give them another lead. But then the Rattlers went on a six-goal run giving them a comfortable lead of five goals to end the third quarter, including two-goals by John Grant, Jr. The Barrage was unable to penetrate the Rattlers defense, lead by goalie Mike Levin. Opening the fourth quarter and finally breaking the Rattlers scoring streak, Colsey scored his fifth goal of the night for the Barrage, followed by a goal from newcomer Seth Goldberg, his first of the evening, desperately trying to keep his team in the game. But Rochester's Jeff Zywicki had other plans, scoring his first goal of the night, followed by a goal from Brandon Spillett keeping the Rattlers ahead by five and to end the game. The final score was Philadelphia 11, Rochester 16.
Philadelphia returns home to United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, PA on Saturday, June 30 for a rematch with the Long Island Lizards. Face off is set for 7:00 PM. Tickets are available by calling the Barrage ticket office at 610-355-8999 or visiting www.philadelphiabarrage.com.
