Philadelphia Barrage News Release

(Bridgeport, CT – June 6, 2003) – The Bridgeport Barrage, Connecticut's only Major League Lacrosse team, were defeated by the Boston Cannons, 23-17 , tonight at Harbor Yard in front of 3,892 fans. This was the second consecutive game that the Barrage would allow their opponent to score 23 points. Eight different Cannons would score as Boston improved to 2-0 on the season.

To start the game, Boston's David Evans would connect with Michael Watson for the first goal of the night 1:13 into the first quarter. The Barrage would waste no time as Dan Denihan connected with Keith Cromwell to tie the game at 1-1. The Barrage would strike again quickly as Tom Kessler found Roy Colsey enroute to the goal for the first and only time that the Barrage would lead, 2-1.

The second quarter would see the Cannons outscore the Barrage five goals to one. For the Cannons, Mike Regan stood out as the star of the first half as he scored two two-point goals back-to-back in the second quarter alone. Regan would score four times in the first half counting the two two-pointers as he connected with David Evans at the end of the first quarter to start his domination. Adding to his point total in the fourth quarter, he would score again unassisted. The Cannons would have two different players score two point goals, as Evans and Regan would convert outside the arc.

Blake Miller (5g) would have a hat trick before the second quarter would end, after hooking up with Dan Denihan for his third of the night. Miller would lead all scorers for Bridgeport as he had five goals on the night. Second in scoring for the Barrage was Roy Colsey (3g, 1a) with three goals and one assist, adding his second consecutive hat-trick of the season.

Defenseman Nick Polanco would spend more time in the penalty box during the game then any other player in the game, as the Barrage would allow the Cannons to be a man up for a majority of the third quarter.

The Barrage would outscore the Cannons 6-4 in the fourth quarter in an attempt to demolish the already overwhelming lead Boston had obtained. Keith Cromwell (1g (2pt) 2a) would score his first two point goal of the season in the last six minutes of the game. The effort proved to be too little to late as the Cannons would win 23-16.

The Cannons goalie, Kevin O'Brien was named the Bud Light MVP of the Game after holding the Barrage to a total of seventeen points on the night with 27 total saves for Boston and improves to 2-0 on the season. For Bridgeport, the goaltending duties were split between Mark Spruyt and Justin Cynar as the Barrage saved 17 combined.

The Barrage will look to capture their first win against the Baltimore Bayhawks (1-1) next Thursday, June 12, at 7:00 p.m. in front of a home crowd at Harbor Yard.
