Philadelphia Barrage News Release
Barrage Beat Pride In Overtime Thriller Philadelphia defeated New Jersey 12-11 in an exciting overtime victory at Yurcak Field.
Piscataway, NJ (July 26, 2007) - After an exciting game between the New Jersey Pride and the Philadelphia Barrage, Seth Goldberg sealed the 12-11 overtime win for the Barrage Yurcak Field. Barrage face off specialist Andy Corno was named the Bud Light MVP for winning 19 out of 24 face offs and scoring one goal.
New Jersey opened up the scoring with a two-point goal from Kyle Harrison, followed by a goal from former Barrage player Conor Ford. Philadelphia came back to tie the game at three with a goal from Seth Goldberg, who is coming off an injured shoulder, Roy Colsey and Matt Striebel. The Pride, who are coming off a big win over Long Island, scored three goals in a row against the 2006 Goalie of the Year, Brian "Doc" Dougherty. Pride goalie Rob Scherr held the Barrage scoreless for almost an entire quarter when Tim Byrnes finally put one past with just three seconds left in the first half.
After a heated halftime talk, the Barrage seemed to come alive when Mike Springer scored his first goal of the night just 40 seconds in, followed by a goal from Colsey, his second of the night, to tie the game. New Jersey scored to go ahead but the Barrage came back with another goal from Springer, followed by a goal from Kevin Cassese. However the Pride didn't like falling behind, so Matt Rewkowski scored a two-point goal, the Pride's second of the night. New Jersey jumped ahead by two to start off the fourth quarter, but face off man Andy Corno, won the face off and ran the length of the field to score his first goal of the night to bring the Barrage within one. Attackman Ryan Boyle scored his first goal of the night for the Barrage to tie the game at 10, followed by a goal from Jed Prossner to give the Barrage the lead. Joe Yevoli scored for the Pride to tie the game at 11, eventually sending the game in to sudden death overtime.
The 10-minute overtime period started with a face off possession by Philly's Matt Zash but the Barrage couldn't put it past Scherr in goal. After multiple possessions, Philadelphia's Goldberg had a one on one with Scherr and but it past him low to win the game for the Barrage. The final scored was Philadelphia 12, New Jersey 11.
