Barrage Announce Opening Day Roster

(Bridgeport Conn., May 27, 2003) - The Bridgeport Barrage, Connecticut's only professional lacrosse team and a charter member of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), announced their 23-man opening night roster today, featuring sixteen returnees and seven new names on the roster.
Among the new faces on the Barrage roster include the 2001 MLL Warrior Defensive Player of the Year, Rob Doerr, who was acquired from Baltimore in 2002 but makes his debut with the Barrage this season. Joining Doerr is Doug Shanahan who was named the International Lacrosse Federation World Championships MVP in 2002 joining All-Ivy League Selection, Hamden Conn. native and Yale graduate, Marko Lujic in the midfield for Bridgeport. Two recent Hofstra University graduates join the Barrage for the 2003 season, Evan LaPenna (Second Team Colonial Athletic Association) and Paul Rao (STX/USLIA Honorable Mention All-American). Originally signed by Long Island in 2001, Carey Egan (Delaware 1996), joins the Barrage defense along with Tim Knowles (Duke 1999).
Of those Barrage returning for the 2003 season, only four can make the claim that they have been with Bridgeport from the beginning. Those players are Roy Colsey, Scott Hochstadt, Brian Langtry, and Blake Miller. Colsey has just come off a very successful indoor season with the New Jersey Storm of the National Lacrosse League leading the team with 64 points (34 goals and 30 assists). Langtry earned NLL Rookie of the Year honors during the past indoor lacrosse season while playing for the Colorado Mammoths. The veteran midfield will be looked to for leadership during the 2003 season.
The Bridgeport Barrage begin their 2003 season against the Rochester Rattlers at 7:35 p.m. on May 30 at Kearney Field. The Barrage home opener is on Friday, June 6th vs. the Boston Cannons at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard at 7:00 p.m.
