Philadelphia Barrage News Release
Philadelphia, PA (April 25, 2007) - The Philadelphia Barrage, the 2006 Major League Lacrosse Champions, will play their 2007 season at United Sports Training Center (USTC) in Downingtown, Pa.
United Sports Training Center is an indoor/outdoor sports facility that hosts numerous sporting events such as tournaments, high school games and practices for both lacrosse and soccer, special events that range from high school after prom parties to political campaigns. The outdoor facility consists of 11 fields: 10 natural grass and one artificial turf, plus two lighted fields. The indoor facility includes a Mondo Surface clear span field house, two Crystaplex Boarded Sportcourt Surfaces and four 30-foot climbing surfaces. More information about United Sports can be found on their website at www.go2ustc.com.
"I chose United Sports to be the new home of the Barrage based on the success we've had there with our clinic series. They are great people to work with and have done an outstanding job building their facility into the number one sports facility in the area," said the General Manager of the Barrage, Keith Mecca. "In addition to playing our games there, we will be looking to develop other programs like Barrage Camps and a year long lacrosse academy."
"United Sports Training Center is extremely excited about providing a home for the Philadelphia Barrage, the premiere professional lacrosse team in the Major Lacrosse League," said Senior Program Director at United Sports, John Hatt. "Our 60-acre facility at United Sports will offer the Philadelphia Barrage and their fans many unique opportunities in the game of lacrosse and beyond. The relationship between the two organizations will assist United Sports in furthering our commitment to the development of the game of lacrosse at the 'grass roots' level in the Greater Philadelphia region."
The move to United Sports comes after it was announced by Villanova University that renovations would be taking place on their track surface this summer. Villanova Stadium played host to the Barrage for three seasons starting in 2004.
