Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

Powered by two goals and an assist from Greg Lecolst, the Jacksonville Barracudas knocked off the Fayetteville FireAntz 5-3 last night at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Lecolst began the scoring as the teams traded goals throughout the first two periods, heading into the third period with the Cudas up one. At the 11:22 mark Lecolst scored what would be the game-winning goal, finally banging home a loose puck that was sitting in the crease.

Cudas' goaltender Matt Meacham had a breakout performance in net, stopping 49 of the FireAntz' 52 shots on the night.

Following the game the Barracudas made a couple of roster moves, most notably trading defenseman Chris Kovalcik to the Knoxville Ice Bears for Future Considerations. Through 29 games with the Cudas, Kovalcik picked up 12 goals and 29 points to go along with 74 penalty minutes, and a -20 rating.

The Barracudas also signed defenseman Shane Wagner. The 6-foot, 195-pound Stillwater, Mn native has just completed his collegiate career with Hamline College, after a successful four-year campaign. He is expected to be in the lineup Thursday night against the Knoxville Ice Bears.

In another move, goaltender Zach Sikich has been called up to the East Coast Hockey League's Long Beach Ice Dogs for the remainder of the season.

The Barracudas are back in action at home this Saturday night, against the Huntsville Havoc. Be sure not to miss the 2nd Annual Barracudas Tailgate Party from 4:30-6:00pm prior to the game. Come out for free burgers, soft drinks, beer, and barbeque. Brought to you by Coors, Coca-Cola, Bubba Burger, Bono's Bar-B-Q, Flowers Bakery, and Frito Lay. All games are played at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, and start at 7:05pm.
