Jacksonville Barracudas News Release
The Jacksonville Barracudas have signed former Florida Seals and Macon Trax star forward Steve Zoryk for the remainder of the 2006-2007 season.
In order to make room for Zoryk on the roster, the Barracudas were forced to make a trade, sending KC Caudill to the Knoxville Ice Bears in exchange for future considerations.
The veteran forward had scored nine goals, and 18 assists for 27 points in 26 games so far this season with the Seals.
"Steve is a proven commodity in this league," said Barracudas' Head Coach Rick Allain. "He has been a consistent offensive force for a number of seasons, and he is a big, strong forward, which is something we need. He also has experience as a leader on teams that have had some playoff success, which is vital at this time of year."
In his first season with the Seals, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Zoryk had 33 goals and 63 points in 56 games during the regular season. He was also a leader on his team's playoff run which ended in a loss to the Ice Bears in the President's Cup Finals.
Before the Seals drafted Zoryk in the Expansion Draft, he played two seasons for the Macon Trax. He played in 111 games with the Trax, scoring 69 goals and 145 points.
With the addition of Zoryk, the Barracudas had to part with a key member of their squad this season. Caudill joined the Barracudas at the beginning of the 2006-2007 season, after being a part of a trade between the Barracudas and Ice Bears in the 2005-2006 season.
"KC is a tough person to lose, both on and off the ice," said Allain. "We wish him the best of luck with the Ice Bears."
In 33 games this season, Caudill split time between forward and defense, scoring three goals and adding 18 assists. The trade returns Caudill to an Ice Bears squad with whom he spent the past two seasons, and helped win a President's Cup last season. In 112 games with the Ice Bears, Caudill picked up 44 goals and 44 assists.
Fans can catch Zoryk in a Barracudas' uniform for the first time on Friday, February 2nd, as his new squad faces the Pee Dee Cyclones. Tickets can be purchased at the Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office, or by logging onto Ticketmaster.com.
