Jacksonville Barracudas News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Barracudas Head Coach Ron Duguay today announced the re-signing of defenseman Justin Hellegards.
Hellegards, a 6' 1", 190-lb. defenseman, was easily the steadiest blue liner on the Barracudas last season playing in all 60 games and collecting 15 points on one goal and 14 assists.
"Justin was the best defenseman on the team last season," Duguay said. "He plays the game with a lot of emotion and is dedicated to being the best he can be."
The Kamack, Saskatchewan native is a physical, stay at home style defenseman with a lot of potential. Last season he was third on the team in penalty minutes (153).
"He's a young defenseman that's untapped, with a lot of potential," Assistant Coach Brett Strot said. "We're implementing a training program that will help him take his game to the next level."
The Barracudas kick-off their WHA2 season on the road November 7th against the Alabama Slammers. The home opener is Friday, November 28th vs. Miami Manatees in the brand new 16,000 seat Veterans Memorial Arena.
Season Tickets, group tickets, and corporate packages are on sale now. The Barracudas will play a 60-game WHA2 schedule against the Alabama Slammers, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals.
