Jacksonville Barracudas News Release
Thanksgiving week began with a thud for the Jacksonville Barracudas, running into a hot goaltender in the Florida Seals' Terry Denike and losing 3-1 in Kissimmee. However, the Barracudas recovered nicely at home, knocking off the SPHL-leading Huntsville Havoc on Friday in overtime, 4-3, and then winning a wild-one again in overtime against the Pee Dee Cyclones. The two wins put the Barracudas in sixth place, but just four points back of the third-place Richmond Renegades.
NUMBER ONE
Former goaltender Tyrone Garner is used to viewing a goal scored as a negative thing. However, he felt the unique rush of being a goal scorer for the first time in his professional career, putting home a puck during a frantic last-minute barrage against the Seals' on Wednesday. Unfortunately the Barracudas were unable to complete the comeback with another goal, but it was a once-in-a-lifetime event for Garner, whose banging, crashing style has made him an instant fan favorite.
AND THEN THERE WERE TWO...
For the last week the Barracudas have been carrying three goaltenders on the roster, after signing Corey Wogtech. Matt Meacham and D'Arcy Munro had been sharing the starting duties all season, however recent standout performances by Meacham secured his roster spot with the team, while Wogtech won his first start, a wild 7-6 overtime victory for the Barracudas in which he stopped 38 shots. The Cudas have since put Munro on waivers.
SNAKE BITTEN
The Barracudas have received the solid all-around play that they have come to expect out of captain Greg LeColst, but with just one goal in the first 12 games of the season, one might perceive him as slumping in his return to the forward position. However, it appears to be a case of simply being snake bitten early in the season, as he leads the team and is among the league leaders in shots on goal with 45. Also, his seven assists place him in a tie for the lead in assists on the team with Ryan Webb. LeColst's contributions are being felt in more ways than just filling the net.
BIG OFFER!
The Barracudas are on the road once again this Friday to play the Columbus Cottonmouths, before returning to the Veterans Memorial Arena for Saturday night's game against the Florida Seals. Anyone who wears the colors of their favorite college teams to the Arena Box Office will receive up to four $13.00 tickets for just $7.00 a piece. So, show some school spirit and head out to the Arena for a night of exciting hockey action at a great price! Game time is 7:05pm.
