Barons to Host NHL Draft Watch Party

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons, American Hockey League affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers will be recognized by the city council of Oklahoma City at their weekly meeting tomorrow morning. The council begins their meeting at 8:30 a.m.

Members of the Barons coaching and front office staffs will be in attendance at the council meeting.

BARONS HOST NHL DRAFT WATCH PARTY

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons will host an NHL Draft watch party June 24 at the Courtyard by Marriott, Downtown OKC, the Barons front office announced today.

Join fellow hockey fans and the Barons staff as the next generation of NHL stars are chosen in the 2011 NHL Draft. The Barons NHL Draft watch party begins at 6 p.m. in the restaurant/lounge area of the Courtyard by Marriott, Downtown OKC. Parking is complimentary in the garage on the south side of the hotel. Please pull a ticket upon entry and have it validated inside.

The Barons NHL Draft Watch Party is open to the public. The Barons are asking that if fans attend to bring an item(s) that can be donated to benefit the families impacted by the tornadoes in and around the metro area May 24. Items such as bottled water, clothing or materials for home use are being collected. If fans are interested in donating, but aren't able to attend the draft watch party, they may take goods to the Barons office, Arctic Edge in Edmond or Blazers Ice Centre in south Oklahoma City. Fans who bring items to donate will receive a two-for-one skate pass to use this summer at Arctic Edge of Blazers Ice Centre.

For the evening of June 24th only, the Courtyard by Marriott, Downtown OKC will offer Barons fans a special discounted rate so they can stay the night after the event and enjoy all Bricktown has to offer. Space is limited and based on availability. For reservations, contact the sales department at 605-7643. At the end of the evening, the Oklahoma City Barons and Courtyard by Marriott, Downtown OKC will give a special prize pack to one lucky fan.

Oklahoma City's parent club, the Edmonton Oilers, own the first pick in the NHL Draft. It marks the first second consecutive season the Oilers have had the #1 overall selection. With the #1 overall selection last season, the Oilers selected Taylor Hall. In 65 games with the Oilers last season, he recorded 42 points (22-20-42), good for second on the team.
