Barons Stop Jaxx Winning Streak On Sunday

JACKSON, TENN. (JULY 25, 2010) - The Birmingham Barons (10-20) ended the Diamond Jaxx (13-17) six-game winning streak on Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park, 4-1. The Barons victory stops their longest losing streak of the season at seven games. The Jaxx were stymied by Barons starter, Charlie Leesman (1-1), who picked up his first Double-A victory. The Jaxx have already won the series, having taken the first three of four against the Barons.

Leesman went six shutout innings in the win and struck out three, while walking none. Steven Hensley (7-8) suffered the loss for West Tenn, despite lasting seven innings. Hensley allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out two in the loss. Steven Richard and Josh Lueke combined for two scoreless innings of relief for the Jaxx. Anthony Carter tallied his 13th save of the season, by dealing a scoreless ninth inning for Birmingham.

Nate Tenbrink, Leury Bonilla and Scott Savastano had two-hit games encompassing all of the Jaxx hits on Sunday afternoon. Alex Liddi ended his seven-game hitting streak by finishing 0-for-3 on Sunday. The Barons had three doubles and Salvador Sanchez led the way with a 2-for-4 afternoon, with an RBI. Sanchez, Cole Armstrong, Dale Mollenhouer and Justin Greene had RBI's for the Barons.

The Barons got on the board first in the top of the sixth inning. Eduardo Escobar singled home Tyler Kuhn to put the Barons up 1-0.

Cole Armstrong doubled in Salvador Sanchez in the top of the seventh inning to extend the Barons lead to 2-0. Dale Mollenhauer and Justin Greene tallied RBI hits in the inning to put the Barons on top 4-0 in the seventh inning.

Carlos Triunfel drove in the first Diamond Jaxx run in the bottom of the eighth inning, on an RBI groundout. The Jaxx stranded the bases loaded in the eighth frame.

The Jaxx and Barons finish of their five game series and season series on Monday afternoon at 12:05 at Pringles Park. RHP Jarrett Grube (2-3, 2.06) will make the start the Diamond Jaxx and RHP Johnnie Lowe (4-3, 3.95) takes the hill for Birmingham. Monday is a Super Splash day at Pringles Park as well as a Business Person's Special.
