Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (70-38) saw their season-high eight-game winning streak come to an end in a 6-2 loss to the Birmingham Barons (48-56) on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Paul Campbell (6-3) made his eighth start of the season for the Butter and Blue, and cruised through the first two innings before allowing a double to Alfredo Gonzalez and then an RBI-single to Ramon Torres to put the Barons ahead 1-0 in the top of the third. The run was the Barons first since the 10
thinning of the series opener on Saturday night.
Barons starter John Parke (3-1) kept the Biscuits off the board through the first three innings, allowing just a pair of singles to Jim Haley and David Rodriguez. The Barons would add to their lead in the fourth when Blake Rutherford and Gavin Sheets launched back-to-back solo home runs off Campbell, to left and right, respectively, to make it a 3-0 game.
Parke continued to flummox the Biscuits, going seven scoreless innings and scattering just three hits-all singles-while allowing no walks, and tallying five strikeouts. In the eighth, the lefty handed the reins to Luis Martinez, who served up a two-run homer to left off the bat of Rodriguez for the catcher's fourth of the season. The round-tripper spoiled the shutout and pulled the Biscuits within one at 3-2.
In the ninth, however, Ti'Quan Forbes hit an RBI-double to left center, and then Luis Gonzalez followed it up with a two-run homer to right to make it 6-2 Barons, and then Danny Dopico finished off the Biscuits in the ninth.
The Biscuits will try to bounce back on Tuesday when Kenny Rosenberg (10-1) takes on Blake Battenfield (4-2) at 6:35 PM CT.
The rest of the home stand will feature Tiger Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, August 1; BBQ Bash featuring a Grill Set Giveaway & MAX Fireworks on Friday, August 2; International Beer Day & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, August 3; And Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Backpack Giveaway on Sunday, August 4.
