ORLANDO -A disastrous eighth inning led to five Birmingham runs, pushing the Barons past the Orlando Rays 7-3 in front of 1,485 at Cracker Jack Stadium Saturday, ending the Rays three-game winning streak.
Holding a 3-2 lead entering the eighth, the Rays committed two errors and walked a pair of Barons batters, resulting in five unanswered runs. Evan Rust (0-2) took the loss after being charged with five runs on three hits and two errors in the inning.
Offensively the Rays were lead by catcher Chairon Isenia, who went 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Rays starting pitcher Jim Magrane allowed one earned run on eight hits over 6.1 IP.
O-Rays Notes:
· The O-Rays have an off day Monday, before starting a 4-game set with the East Division-leading Carolina Mudcats on Tuesday. Upcoming promotions include Friday night fireworks as well as an ESPN The Magazine Mini-Bat giveaway on Friday.
· The Rays made three roster moves this weekend:
- INF Felix Escalona rejoined the team after joining the parent club Tampa on April 24.
- RHP Alex Santos was placed on the DL with an injured knee
- Gabby Martinez was promoted to Class AAA Durham on Saturday.
