
Barons Have Gem of a Weekend

The Cleveland Barons completed their second consecutive weekend sweep, at the expense of the Dayton Gems at Hobart Arena.
Friday night, the Barons came out flying in the first period, with goals by defenseman, Bob Helminen (Calumet, MI), Jason Weeks ( Seattle, WA) and Vinny Jalaba (Beverley Hills, MI). Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, OH) had two assists, also getting helpers in the period were Brian Bicek (Downers Grove, ILL), Andrew Eggert (Livonia, MI), Adam Thomas (Grand Rapids, MI) and Kurt Kivisto (Brighton, MI). A second period goal by Dayton spoiled the shutout bid by goaltender Ian Keserich ( Parma, OH), who ended up with 33 saves in match.
Saturday night, the Barons jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Brian Bicek goal. They would never look back as they posted a 5-2 victory over the Gems to complete the sweep and gain their fourth victory in a row. Also scoring for the Barons were Mike Ruberto (Stoney Creek, ONT), who also had two assists, Adam Fincik (Donora, PA) shorthanded, Jason Weeks, and Bob Helminen. Bicek, also had two assists in the game. Neal Sheehan, Nick Biondo (Parma,OH), Matt Ruberto (Stoney Creek, ONT), and Bob Helminen pick up helpers in the contest. Goaltender Ian Keserich pushed his record to 5-1-0, with a 30 save effort in the game.
BARON NOTES: With his four point weekend, Barons center Brian Bicek was named the North American Hockey League's North division offensive player of the week. This is the second straight week a Baron has earned the honor ( Mike Ruberto).
The barons return to action this weekend with a home and home series with the Youngstown Phantoms. Fridays game will be in Youngstown , while the weekend finale will be played Saturday night at The IceLand USA in Strongsville, game time 7:05. Tickets are 5 dollars for adults and 2 dollars for kids under 14.
