Barons extend win streak to five games

Parma, OH (January 18th, 2005)- The Cleveland Barons completed a holiday weekend sweep in Boardman, OH with a 5-2 win over the host Youngstown Phantoms. The Barons won all four games at the North Division Showcase and now owns a five game winning streak. Cleveland (16-16-3, 33pts.) moves from sixth place to a tie for fourth place with the Toledo IceDiggers.

North Division Showcase Review

Game 1 Cleveland vs. Toledo 6-2

Boardman, OH (January,14th, 2005)-The Cleveland Barons jumped out to a 6-0 lead against the IceDiggers to cruise to a 6-2 victory. The Barons were led by Josh Leonard (Allen Park, MI) had a goal and 2 assists. Nick Kosinski (Marquette, MI), Carter Camper (Rocky River, OH), Pat Schafer (Hilliard, OH), Lukas DeLorenzo (Export, PA) and Jeremy Stocker (Baldwinsville, NY) also scored. Jacob Cepis (Parma, OH) had 2 assists. Bobby Jarosz (Crystal Lake, IL) had 24 saves in the win.

Game 2 Cleveland vs. Soo Kewadin Indians 3-2 (shootout)

Boardman, OH (January 15th, 2005)- The Cleveland Barons defeated the Soo Kewadin Indians 3-2 in a shootout that went 12 rounds. John Goebel (Parma, OH) notched the game winner beating Soo goalie Jason Kearney. Matt Shouneyia (West Bloomfield, MI) and Pat Schafer scored while Lukas DeLorenzo and Kurt Kivisto (Brighton, MI) had assists. Bobby Jarosz made 33 saves in the game.

Game 3 Cleveland vs. Springfield Jr. Blues 5-2

Boardman, OH (January, 16th , 2005)-The Cleveland Barons earned a 5-2 win against the Springfield Jr. Blues. This was a rematch of a thrilling 5 game series in the North division playoffs in which Springfield won 3 games to 2. The Barons trailed 2-1 midway through the second period, until they answer with two goals in the second and two more in the third period to close out the victory. The Barons were led by Nick Kosinski with a goal and a assist. Josh Leonard, Matt Shouneyia, Lukas DeLorenzo and Jacob Cepis also scored for Cleveland. Defenseman jim Burichin (Strongsville, OH ) had 2 assists in the game. Blake MacNicol (Milan,OH ) earned the victory in net with a 23 save perfomance.

Game 4 Cleveland vs. Youngstown 5-2

Boardman, OH (January 17th, 2005)-The Cleveland Barons completed a 4 game sweep of the North Division Showcase with a 5-2 win over the host Youngstown Phantoms. The Barons were led by Matt Shouneyia and Nick Kosinski each with a goal and a assist. John Goebel, Pat Schafer, Josh Leonard also scored for Cleveland. Carter Camper had 2 assists and Pat Goebel (Parma, OH) had a assist in the win. Barons goalie had 28 saves in the game.

Upcoming Games

The Cleveland Barons will be on the road for the next week with a return match with the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday January 21st, 7pm. The road show continues to Ann Arbor, MI where the Baron s will play the USA National Development Program on Sunday January23rd, 3PM (Under -17 squad) and Tuesday January 25th ,7PM (Under-18 squad). The next home game will be January 29th against the Soo Kewadin Indians, 7PM faceoff at the IceLand USA Arena in Strongsville, OH.
