Strongsville, OH (January 29th, 2005)-The Cleveland Barons tonight began a stretch of playing the next 7 of 9 games against the Soo Kewadin Indians. The history between these two franchise have produced a playoff hockey atmosphere and that is what the fans were given at the IceLand USA Arena. After a scoreless first period, Barons defenseman Nick Biondo (Parma, OH) scored his 11th goal of the year, with the lone assist going to goaltender Bobby Jarosz (Crystal Lake, IL) to give the Barons a 1-0 lead. That lead would hold up until the first minute of the third period when the Indians tied it up on a Nik Sellers goal. The Barons would go up 2-1 two minutes later on a Lukas DeLorenzo (Export, PA) goal his 3rd of the year with the assists going to Kurt Kivisto (Brighton, MI) and Kirk Golden (Vail, CO). The Indians would tie it up two minutes later on a Glenn Ylitalo goal. The Indians took the lead for good at the seven minute mark on a RG Flath goal to go ahead 3-2. The would get three more goals in the closing minute to make the final score 6-2. Barons goalie Bobby Jarosz had 26 saves in the game. The Barons are 15-20-3, 33pts sixth place in the North Division.
Strongsville, OH (January 30th, 2005)-The Barons came out flying this afternoon, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead as forward Carter Camper (Rocky River, OH) scored his fourth goal of the tear on the power play, Matt Shouneyia (West Bloomfield, MI) and Nick Biondo picked up the assists. The Soo Indians would close out the period with two goals of their own by Joe Beaudry and Drew Satterley end the period at 2-1 for the Indians. Soo forward Matt Jones would have the only goal in the second period to put the Indians up 3-1 after two periods. The Barons mounted a comeback halfway in the third period as Nick Kosinski (Marquette, MI) scored 12th goal of the year on the power play to close the score to 3-2. Twelve seconds later, Barons forward Pat Schafer (Hilliard, OH) picked off a pass and scored his 12th goal of the year to tie the score up 3-3. The Indians Tiger Marcotte would break the tie with 45 seconds remaining in the third period to give the Soo a 4-3 lead. The Indians would add an emptynet goal to make the final 5-3. Barons goalie Bobby Jarosz suffered the lost, he had 23 saves in the game. The Barons are now 15-21-3, 33pts sixth place in the North Division.
BARONS DEFENSEMAN STEVE SILVER RATED BY NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING
The mid-season NHL Central Scouting Bureau. rankings came out and Barons Defenseman Steve Silver (Brighton, MI) was ranked #217 by the bureau. Silver currently has 1 goal and 1 assist with 109 PIMs in 38 games. Silver will be playing in the future at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Barons Head Coach/ General Manager Tim Alexander said; "Steve is a dominant player defensively for our team, he is counted on in all situations for us, Western Michigan is getting a class player that should help their program immediately."
BARONS GOEBEL AND SHOUNEYIA TO ALL-STAR GAME
The Barons will send two representitives to the NAHL All-Star game in Frisco, Texas. The Barons leading scorer John Goebel (Parma, OH) 17 g - 13 a-30pts and Captain, defenseman Matt Shouneyia 7 g-11 a -18pts will leave for the All-Star festival this weekend.
