Barons defenseman Bob Helminen commits to Northern Michigan

The Cleveland Barons of North American Hockey League is proud to announce that defenseman Bob Helminen has committed to Northern Michigan University for the upcoming 2004-05 season.

Helminen, the Calumet, MI native, led the Barons defensemen in goals with 13, in which 10 goals were on the power play, which led the NAHL for defensemen. Helminen chipped in with 11 assists for a total of 24pts in his first season in Cleveland.

Barons Head Coach/General Manager Tim Alexander says:" Bob was an instrumental part of our team. His presence on and off the ice will be hard to replace. The Barons organization wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Helminen becomes the 10th member of the Barons to commit to college and the 7th Barons to be going to a division 1 school. He also continues a family tradition in playing Division 1 hockey joining his father Ken (Michigan Tech) and cousins Lars ( Michigan Tech) and Dwight ( Michigan/ New York Rangers).

The Barons home opener will be Saturday, September 25th against USA National under18 squad at IceLand USA in Strongsville, OH. Game time will be 7:05.For further information call 440-886-2800
