Barons complete weekend sweep

The Cleveland Barons entered this past weekend with a six game losing streak. The Barons had a tough task ahead of the with two road games in Boardman, Ohio with the third place Youngstown Phantoms (21-18-3, 45pts). The Barons responded with a weekend sweep of the Phantoms by the scores of 6-1 and 4-2. The victories bring Cleveland (17-22-3 ,37 pts) within two points of a playoff position behind the Fairbanks Ice Dogs (18-22-3, 39pts).

BOARDMAN,OH (February 11, 2005)- The Barons were led by forward Kurt Kivisto (Brighton, MI), who had a 4 point night (2 goals, 2 assists). Forward Pat Schafer (Hilliard, OH) (2G,1A), and Defenseman Matt Shouneyia (West Bloomfield, MI) (1 G, 2A) had three points each. Barons forward John Goebel (Parma, OH) had a goal and assist , also Defenseman Nick Biondo (Parma, OH) and Forward Nick Kosinski (Marquette, MI) had a pair of assists in the match. Forward Jeremy Stocker (Baldwinsville, NY) also had a point in the game. Youngstown forward Brad O'Shell scored the lone Phantom goal. BOARDMAN,OH (February 12, 2005)- Barons goalie Bobby Jarosz stole the show tonight with a 67 save performance to give the Barons the victory. Barons forward Carter Camper (Rocky River, OH) scored the game winning goal from a Josh Leonard (Allen Park, MI) with just over three minutes left. Kurt Kivisto opened the scoring, in the first period, with a power play goal his 10th from Nick Kosinski and Pat Schafer. Cleveland forward John Goebel scored his 4th shorthanded goal and 19th of the season from Camper and Mike Kennedy (Lyon, IL) to give the Barons a 2-0. Phantoms forward Mike Maltese scored the next two goals to tie the score at two. After the Camper goal to give the Barons a 3-2 lead, forward Kurt Kivisto scored on the empty net, his 11th of the year unassisted to seal the victory.

UPCOMING GAMES

The Barons return home this weekend to face the first place Soo Kewadin Indians ( 26-13-3, 55pts). The Indians are led by forward Ray Kaunisto (16g-15a-31pts), Nik Sellars ( 10g-31a-41pts) and Jim Pentecost (16g-14a-30pts). The games will be Friday (Feb. 18th) and Saturday (Feb. 19th) 7PM at the IceLand USA in Strongsville, OH.
