Barons Come Up with a Gem

Cleveland Barons News Release


The Cleveland Barons went on the road tonight to Troy, OH to face the Dayton Gems with the mission to get two points. Well mission accomplished as the Barons never looked back, on the way to a 7-2 victory Friday night at Hobart Arena.

Jason Weeks (Seattle, WA) started the scoring at the 7:53 mark with an assist to Andrew Eggert ( Livonia, MI) to give the Barons a 1-0 lead. After the gems tied it up with a Matt MacDonald goal, Barons defenseman Matt Ruberto (Stoney Creek, ONT) scored a power play goal with the assists going to Brian Bicek( Downers Grove, IL) and Mike Ruberto (Stoney Creek, ONT). With a 2-1 lead after the first the Barons never looked back.

The Barons dominated the period putting up three goals started by Mike Ruberto at the 5:31 mark with assists going to Bicek and Weeks. Mike Woolf scored his second goal as a Baron at the 7:23 mark with assists going to Adam Fincik (Donora, PA) and Matt Shouneyia (Bloomfield Hills, MI). Mike Ruberto scored his second goal of the night 17 seconds later giving the Barons a commanding 5-1 lead .The assists went to Jason Weeks and Tony Wiseman (White Lake, MI).

The Gems came out in the first minute with a Dan Karlander goal, but Mike Ruberto finished the hat trick off at the 13:38 mark with assists going to Weeks and Bicek. Adam Thomas (Grand Rapids, MI) then scored his second goal of the year at the18:17 mark with assists going to Nick Biondo (Parma, OH) and Vinny Jalaba ( Beverley Hills, MI) to close out the 7-2 victory.

Barons Goaltender Ian Keserich (Parma, OH) had a solid game stopping 21 of 23 shots improving his record to 13-5-2.

The Barons are off to Boardman ,OH Saturday night to face the Youngstown PHANTOMS, game time 7:05.
