Lancaster Stormers News Release

Josh Bell delivered a game winning homerun in the sixth inning to help the Lancaster Barnstormers edge the New Britain Bees, 2-1 at Clipper Magazine Stadium Sunday afternoon. Bell's homerun was his second in as many days.

The club's hitting coach, in the lineup at third base, led off the sixth inning against Bees' starter Andy Van Hekken (4-6), with a shot out to the Haller Pavilion in right to give Lancaster the narrow 2-1 lead. Bell had also singled earlier in the contest as well as snapping up two sizzling grounders to his left.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Albaladejo (7-5) pitched his 10th quality start of the season to help Lancaster salvage their only win in the weekend series, improving their record to 7-10 on the second half.

Albaladejo was solid throughout his six innings, allowing just one run on five hits. He walked one and struck out four. After that, the Lancaster bullpen trio of Kaleb Fleck, Scott Shuman, and Matt Reynolds combined for six strikeouts and just one hit across the last three frames. Reynolds closed the game, earning the ex-major leaguer his 19th save of the season.

New Britain scored first for the third straight game, taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Brock Stassi led off with a ground rule double to right center. Deibinson Romero followed with an RBI single to left to score the Bees' lone run.

The Barnstormers made up that run in the fifth. Carlos Garcia beat out a bunt up the first base line and advanced on a grounder by Darian Sandford. Following a walk to Tyler Bortnick, the Lancaster second baseman was brought home by Blake Gailen's double snuck pasat third baseman Jovan Rosa and down the line.

Reynolds ran into mild trouble in the ninth after Stassi led off with a broken bat single to center. The lefty struck out Jovan Rosa on a check swing, stranding the tying and lead runs on the basepaths.

Lancaster will hit the road for a four-game, three-day series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs before coming home August 3 to battle the Sugar Land Skeeters. LHP John Anderson (1-2, 3.18 ERA) goes to the hill for Lancaster Tuesday to face Blue Crabs righty Brett Marshall (2-3, 4.36 ERA) in the final game of July.

Fans can catch all the play-by-play action on the road with Dave Collins on the Lancaster Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15 Tuesday evening.
