BOARDMAN, Ohio- After winning the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League regular season championship a few weeks ago, there was only one thing the Phantom Fireworks Bantam A team had left to do - win the playoff crown as well.
Led by five points from Zach Jones, four points from Corey Barnhouse, and the near-perfect goaltending of Brennan Allen, the Phantoms did just that, winning a pair of games this weekend at the Ice Connection in Butler, Penn. to take home the title of PAHL Bantam A Major Black Division Champions.
In their semi-final showdown Saturday against Cambria, Barnhouse collected a goal and an assist, while Allen turned aside all 17 shots for the 3-0 shutout victory.
In Sunday's championship final, Allen turned in another spectacular performance, stopping 28 of 29 shots, while Zack Jones seized the day, scoring twice and assisting on two others, leading the Phantoms to a 4-1 win over North Pittsburgh 273.
The Bantam A Phantoms (18-4-0) will now head to the Ohio State Tier II Hockey Tournament in Gates Mills this Wednesday through Sunday to face off against the best this state has to offer.
The Phantoms will face the Cleveland Warriors on Wednesday and the Dayton Bombers on Saturday, before Sunday's championship round.
The Phantoms Youth Hockey program is based out of Boardman, Ohio and plays all home games at the Ice Zone, sponsored by the B.J. Alan Company - Phantom Fireworks.
