
Banford Signs with Cedar Rapids

The Cedar Rapids River Kings have signed Eric Banford to its 2019 roster.
Banford (6'2", 275) is an arena football veteran, having played four seasons of indoor football returning to the Indoor Football League. Last season he started one and played in five games for the NAL's Maine Mammoths, recording 7.5 total tackles. He also played for the CIF's Amarillo Venom, starting in two games and recording ten tackles and four sacks in just those two games.
In 2017 Banford played for the CIF's Duke City Gladiators. While in Albuquerque Banford played in seven games, earning 21 tackles (7.5 for loss), one forced fumble and recovery, and one blocked kick.
In 2015 he split time between Green Bay Blizzard and the Billings Wolves. Between his two teams he totaled 15 tackles, five sacks, three blocked kicks, two forced fumbles and one recovery. He also had an interception and earned Week 8 Player of the Week Honorable Mention.
Banford played his college ball first at Foothill College where he was a two-time All-NORCAL Conference member, recording 92 tackles (26.5 for loss) and 18.5 sacks in his two seasons there. He then transferred to Western Carolina, playing in every game and starting every contest his senior year. While a junior he recorded 25 tackles, and as a senior he had 28 and returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Banford is a native of Newark, California, and went to Newark Memorial High School.
